Discovering Communication

Communication can be verbal and non-verbal. People can use various modes to ensure their message is understood e.g. speech, hand movements or gestures, facial expression, eye contact, body language (posture and movement).

Makaton is an effective multi-modal approach which uses speech with signs (gestures) and symbols (pictures) to help people communicate.  It also uses facial expression, eye contact and body language to give as much information as possible. Makaton is a language programme that supports the development of communication skills.

By participating in Makaton Training you are developing your skills and knowledge, gaining insight into the world of Makaton and helping to break down communication barriers.

​

I will help you to make Makaton signs and symbols relevant in your home or work environment, so that it can become a fantastic supportive tool. This training will help to make language visual which is an incredible bonus to visual learners.

Training Options:

Taster Session – up to 20 participants face to face and 15 virtually

Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 – up to 15 participants face to face and 11 virtually

 

Each Taster session can be customised to your environment. For example, we can adapt the vocabulary to fit your setting—whether that’s education, healthcare, family life, or community use.

ABOUT ME

My name is Denise Devlin and I have a Bsc Honours Degree in Communication with Linguistics.  Throughout my career, I have worked for both the Health and Education Departments. For the last thirteen

years I have worked in Speech and Language Therapy to provide speech and language support to children, teenagers and adults. 
Makaton is a highly effective communication tool that I use in my clinic to support the development of speech, language and communication. 
I am a registered and certified Makaton Tutor with the world-renowned Makaton Charity.  I am fully compliant and apprised of up-to-date Data Protection regulations and also registered with the ICO.
